Junior and Senior Assignments for the week of November 3, 2014





Seniors

Monday- Students will complete their journal and ACT prep the first ten minutes of class. Teacher will pass out Handout 1and 2 for Brave New World, and then the class will read chapter 1, beginning a dialectical journal and answering chapter 1 comprehension questions.

Tuesday- Students will read the first ten minutes of class.  The class will read chapter 2 of Brave New World, continuing their dialectical journal and answering chapter 2 comprehension questions.

Wednesday- Students will complete their journal the first ten minutes of class.  The class will read chapter 3 of Brave New World, continuing their dialectical journal and answering chapter 3 comprehension questions.

Thursday- Students will read the first ten minutes of class.  The class will read chapter 4-5 of Brave New World, continuing their dialectical journal and answering chapter 4-5 comprehension questions.

Juniors

Monday- Students will complete their journal and ACT prep the first ten minutes of class. Students will complete the Investigative Reporting Handout regarding the Puritan era by researching questions on Handout 2, and presenting their findings to the class. 


Tuesday- Students will read the first ten minutes of class.  As a class, students will complete handouts 3-4, which introduces students to Nathaniel Hawthorne’s contemporary style of writing found in The Scarlet Letter. 

Wednesday- Students will complete their journal the first ten minutes of class. Students will be introduced to the symbolism found in The Scarlet Letter by completing Handout 5, “What Does a Symbol Mean?”  Students will then be given the format for their ongoing character and symbol analysis during the course of the reading of The Scarlet Letter. 

Thursday- Students will read the first ten minutes of class.  Students will read chapters 1 and 2 of The Scarlet Letter, completing the symbol and character analysis in their journal.  Chapter 1 and  2 character will be Hester, and the symbol will be the scaffolding.
