Monday- Essays are
due!!!!
All Classes will attend Part 3
of the Arizona Youth Partnerships Program.
Tuesday- All students will complete the journal for the first ten minutes of class.
Seniors will be given a political cartoon to analyze for
satirical qualities. Students will write
a few sentences noting the satirical humor of the cartoon. The class will then read an editorial dealing
with the same issue depicted in the political cartoon Students will note
differences in the tone and focus of the piece and discuss how both the cartoon
and the written piece are not content with the status quo and that both are
attempting to influence people’s opinions.
Juniors- The teacher will then
explain the Bill of Rights Group Activity. The teacher will place students
in cooperative groups of 3 or 4, and pass out the rubric. Each group
will be assigned one of the first ten amendments and complete the following
tasks: Write a summary of the amendment in modern language defining necessary
terms. Explain an example in U.S. History or an example in the life of the
presenters that involves one of the first ten amendments. Create a visual aide
for teaching the amendment. It can be a picture or a diagram. Create a skit
depicting the amendment being violated. Create a handout for the class (28
copies). Crossword puzzles, word searches, and graphic organizers work best.
Present the above items to the class on Thursday.
Wednesday- All students will complete the journal for the first ten minutes of class.
Seniors will create their own satires using the elements of
fiction. Students may use any media they choose (movie, cartoon/comic, short
story, skit, etc.), but the final product must include the elements that the
class discussed as part of Attachment A, Elements of Satire. Students begin by choosing particular topics, characters
and satiric elements to use in their piece.
Juniors will continue to
work on the Bill of Right Group Activity.
Thursday- All students will complete the journal for the first ten
minutes of class.
Seniors will present their
satires to the class.
Juniors will present their group
activity.
